Protein Shakes

Shake it up!

Have you ever wanted to supplement your diet with a nutritious & beneficial protein shake? You can actually burn a ton of calories just trying to decide which protein powder, (supplement), is best for you. So I have decided to give you my opinion on a couple of variations, as well as what works best for me.

The most popular protein powder out there is composed of whey protein. Whey is a derivative of dairy, some people have reactions to it and others do not. I would have to say that the whey protein-based powders do taste the best, but that should not be the only deciding factor. Many proteins have artificial flavoring, hidden sugars and GMO ingredients to make it taste as appetizing as possible.

Which brings me to plant-based protein powders. Let’s just say I would much rather eat a bowl full of broccoli then drink a shaker filled with sandy broccoli and coconut milk. I have tried at least three different brands, and I cannot find a plant-based powder that is palatable. I have also read that it is not necessarily beneficial to a person who is into weight training (you would need to consume a couple of shakes to give you the amount of protein necessary to simply supplement a healthy diet).

Recently, I have found bone broth protein. Flavored or unflavored, both taste extremely bland, but you cannot pass up this protein simply by taste. The benefits are amazing, the caloric and carb numbers are low and the powder mixes well with anything you add to it. No grainy taste, no belly discomfort and 20g of protein per serving.

With that being said, I have decided to stick with my bone broth protein powder and 8 ounces of unsweetened coconut milk. This is a great addition to my daily diet, and it’s quick and easy right after a work out.

Quick ways to find the perfect protein for you
*Pick up samples at health food stores and fitness facilities
* Ask friends for sample of what they use and see if it’s right for you
* When you’ve narrowed down proteins that may be right for you, try it out for 14 days and see how you feel
